Your First Lesson:

How to prepare and what to know

1) In-person lessons take place in my home studio, located at 204 W 39th St, Vancouver, WA 98660This is just north of downtown Vancouver. Plenty of street parking in front of the house. You may walk right in the front door at your lesson time; no need to knock!

2) Please go to the students page (password time2sing). There, you'll find a bunch of good stuff, including a link to sign up for our studio newsletters. You'll also find the Student Intake Form and Studio Contract, which I'd appreciate you filling out prior to our first lesson. This will help us hit the ground running when we meet!

3) Please bring along a song or two that you love to sing. Any genre, any style. You don't need to have sheet music or a backing track.

4) My current rate--and the cost of this trial lesson--is $65 per hour-long lesson. Payment is due at time of lesson, and can be made in a number of formats, which are listed in the studio contract and on the students page.

5) At this time, my in-person lessons are mask-optional for those who are NOT exhibiting covid-, flu-, or cold-like symptoms. You'll find more about this in the studio contract.

If a student feels well enough to sing, but is experiencing any of the symptoms mentioned above, they may opt for a Zoom lesson. This is a fun, viable, and effective format used by Thoreson Studio members all over the country.

I sometimes wear an N95 singing mask while teaching, as I have an autoimmune disease.

6) Finally: I have a retired racing greyhound named Danny Boy. This is his instagram, run by one of my students. He is our studio mascot--silly, sweet, hypoallergenic, and loves to sit in on lessons! If you have any dog-related concerns, let me know.

Can’t wait to see you!
